Message to All-Day Guests

Dear All-Day Guests,

We have received various questions concerning the events during the day and hope here that most of the questions will be answered.

Church service
With the exception of the relatives and friends who will be staying in Amstelveen, we kindly request you to arrange your own transportation to the church. If coming by car, please remember, the church is located in the centre of Amsterdam and Saturday afternoon will be heavy and slow traffic, because of shoppers and tourists. Recommended forms of transportation: canal bikes, normal bikes, stolen bikes, back seat of bikes, squad bikes, trams and (for the clever ones) taxis.

We would appreciate it if everybody would come to the church between 13.15 and 13.45 hours. Upon arrival your corsage and service sheet will be handed to you before being seated (or before having a good punch up for the best seats in the house). All guests are expected to train their voices in the bath/shower from today onwards so that we can boast about our private choir.

Transportation from the church to the Orangerie (and back)
Two coaches have been arranged to drive everybody immediately after the service to the Orangerie, where tea and dinner will be served, followed by a song and a dance. The Orangerie – the place where they grew orange trees in the old days – is situated in a lovely park, about half an hour drive from Amsterdam. On the way you will see the fascinating grey asphalt roads, that can be found everywhere in the western world. We have arranged this trip especially for our friends from abroad, to prevent home sickness. We anticipate that our guests will have caught on to the practice of singing and will each sing a song from their native country, like they used to do in their school days.

Tea
Upon arrival tea will be served, as singing makes one very thirsty, and the newly weds will have their pictures taken in the park. We advise all our other guests to pose now for any cameraman/woman around, as this will be the last time that you will be seen without a glass in your hand.

Dinner
Each gang (the Dutch word for course) will have a choice of meat, fish and vegetarian. We trust that everybody can find something to their liking with this arrangement. Swapping and bartering is permitted during the meal. Stealing from other people’s plate is strictly forbidden, unless unnoticed. Those guests, who wish to rise to the occasion to make a speech or offer any other form of entertainment, are kindly requested to contact the master of ceremony before the wedding day Lheppener@chello.nl

20.30 hours
Other guests will join our party to spend the evening with us. They will be requested to be present before 20.30 hours, when the wedding couple will make their entrance as the start of the evening with bubbly and the cutting of the wedding cake.

At 12.30 the party will come to an end. The same coaches will bring everybody back to the church at the end of the party, after throwing the Amstelveen lot out at the Dijkgravenlaan. Those, who have misbehaved during the party, can wait in front of the church for Sunday morning service. The remaining few can steal a bike (very normal behaviour and economical as most bikes can transport two people) or – as the church is in the vicinity of a big hotel and the Rembrandtplein – find a taxi for their journey home or to their hotel.

Arrivals and departures
Please email your date and time of both arrivals and departures to loftus@planet.nl as soon as you know. We hope to come and collect you from and bring you to the airport, when possible.

For our guests from abroad
For the friends who will be staying in hotels and whose accommodation has been arranged with neighbours and friends near our home: From Thursday up and incl. Tuesday night our home will be your home base. Breakfast, lunch, drinks and dinner is waiting for you and/or will be served at our house and we hope to see you walk in and out, stay etc. – in other words – be at home with us. The bus and night bus take you from our home to various places both in the centre of Amsterdam (about 25 minutes) as well as Amstelveen. Therefore going for the sights and visiting Amsterdam will be easy. For the wedding day we have arranged transportation for the Amstelveen lot to the church, so no worries.

Traditionally Sunday morning brunch will be served at the Dijkgravenlaan for all those who come from abroad and other party goers.

For logistical reasons we would appreciate it if you let us know at loftus@loftus.nl if you prefer to eat out or/and when you will join us at the Dijkgravenlaan for the various meals.

There will be one exception: Friday 23rd dinner, when father and mother have the bride to themselves for her official last night at home.


Attire - Eveningwear

Only good news for the ladies. All ladies can look their best all day long. Please be aware that there is no opportunity to change between church and dinner/evening, as one event follows immediately after the other, hence the arrangement of the coaches. There will be long dresses and short dresses, so choose the dress that you are comfortable in and in which you can fully enjoy this happy day.

Gentlemen, no black tie is required. You can come in tuxedo/smoking to support Bill or in any other suit, that gives us all the opportunity to see your fast feet work at the dance floor.

Gifts
Sharkey and Tara are presently living in a small apartment and are hoping and planning to buy a house in the next couple of years. They are not in a position to store an awful lot of gifts in their apartment. It was a spacious apartment until Sharkey moved in with his computers and his complete library. They hope, you will understand their request for a financial gift on their new joint account, where they will save for the furnishing of their new home.
